OUR STORIES

COLIN

Colin is a very active member of his Barrie Community. Passport funding has allowed him to pursue his passions, including horseback riding and baseball. Colin is interested in creative writing and penned a powerful description of autism, which was featured on Catulpa CSS’ Facebook page. Congratulations to Colin and his super supportive mom and dad.

“I have found two other passions which are curling and soccer, in which I met friends, coaches and family members through these opportunities also. I would not have been able to do so if not for your dedicated, great and supportive service! I am hoping to find other passions also that I would never have thought of. Thank you.”

BONNIE

Bonnie has lived with pain her entire life, but with support and her own improvising, she manages to be independent. After two recent losses of people close to her, Bonnie was pretty much housebound. Fortunately, she started to receive SIL supports and found just the right worker. Since then, Bonnie has worked hard to be as independent as she can and to accept the assistance she needs. With the support of her mother, Bonnie attends programs and social events and develops friendships in her community. It is so nice to see her smile and be happy and excited about her life and successes. She has worked hard to get here!

MICHAELA

Michaela is an inspiring young lady. She lives with her mother Andrea, Grandmother Clair, her turtle and dog. She has a passion for horses and riding. Michaela is amazing! She has shown her fighting spirit, her tenacity and her sense of humour in the face of challenging circumstances. With the support of her extended family, Michaela has been fighting back after a diagnosis of cancer at 15 and a subsequent stroke.

This awesome young lady and her family have worked diligently together so that Michaela could return home after a lengthy stay in HSC and rehab. Michaela is now back in school and continuing to work hard to regain her full independence. Everyone is in awe of all that Michaela has accomplished in her recovery, and excited to see what she will accomplish next!! Congratulations Michaela, you are an inspiration, a fighter and we all celebrate you.

Vanessa

In the year since she found her “forever home”, Vanessa has flourished. She volunteers with the SPCA, cuddling and giving lots of love to the kittens and cats. She also volunteers one day a week at the Early Years Center, where she shares her kind and loving nature with babies and young children; singing songs, reading books and participating in circle time. She developed an amazing portfolio in an Employment Readiness Program and successfully obtained a job at The CLASS Lunch Box; welcoming everyone with her bright, friendly smile, taking payment, providing change and handing out tickets. Congratulations Vanessa on all your accomplishments! We wish you success in all your future endeavors!
