As announced by the Ontario government, funding is being provided for a temporary wage increase for eligible support workers who provide personal support services.
Eligible support workers are responsible for assisting in daily living tasks, personal care and support, and ensuring the personal safety and welfare of individuals in residential, community and home settings, and/or for the provision of caregiver respite.
The funding increase will assist in paying direct support workers–funded by the following direct funding programs–and help families to maintain support workers and to hire new ones. Please click the links below to find specific process for each program.
The temporary funding is retroactive to October 1, 2020 and will cover eligible direct support workers’ hours from that date. This must be applied for as per each program’s instruction.
Important Information for Passport Recipients:
Funding for the temporary wage increase is being reviewed by the Ontario government on a monthly basis and currently extends through March 31, 2021. It is in connection with regulations made under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020.
